The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has reaffirmed its dedication to the effective and timely implementation of the Ogoni Clean-up. Its project coordinator, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, who made this commitment, emphasised that the project will continue to be accountable, transparent, and people-centric.

Professor Zabbey made this statement following his reinstatement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after a performance review of the HYPREP Project.

Expressing his gratitude, Professor Zabbey thanked President Tinubu for his reinstatement and commended the President for his unwavering commitment to accelerating the Ogoni Clean-up as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasised his renewed vigour, passion, and dedication to meeting stakeholders’ expectations and delivering a world-class project that adheres to the highest standards.

Professor Zabbey acknowledged the eagerness of stakeholders and communities for the speedy and quality completion of various HYPREP projects in Ogoniland. These projects include the construction of the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration (CEER), the Ogoni Specialist Hospital and Buan Cottage Hospital, the Ogoni Power Project, the provision of potable water, sustainable livelihoods programs, remediation of oil-impacted land and shoreline sites, and mangrove restoration.

Professor Zabbey noted that increased communication with critical stakeholders would be prioritised, and he thanked the Ogoni community for their support and ownership of the clean-up efforts.

While acknowledging the support of stakeholders, Professor Zabbey urged them to maintain their faith in the project as he remains focused on delivering HYPREP’s mandate of a cleaner Ogoni environment and an improved human development index.
