Popular Afrobeats singer Kcee has revealed that being overlooked by award organisers in the past once left him in tears.
In a recent interview on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, the “Limpopo” crooner spoke about the emotional pain he felt earlier in his career. He explained that despite working hard and releasing successful songs, he often felt ignored by the Nigerian music industry.
“I grew up in an industry that wasn’t fair to me,” Kcee said. He noted that while his fans always supported him, award organisers repeatedly failed to nominate him for his hard work. He admitted that this constant exclusion really “pained” him and made him cry.
However, the singer stated that everything changed when his hit song “Limpopo” became a global success. He described that moment as a sign from God that his prayers had been answered. He also mentioned his 2024 viral hit, “Ojapiano,” which gained massive attention internationally and on TikTok as proof of his organic growth.
Kcee explained that he has now reached a point where he no longer seeks validation from awards. He stated that he now prefers “rewards” such as financial success and fan loyalty over trophies.
“Right now, when I win awards, or you don’t nominate me, I don’t care,” the singer added.
