Veteran Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has clarified reports surrounding the dissolution of his marriage, stating that he did not initiate the divorce proceedings.

Ekiye clarified a statement issued following what he described as numerous calls and messages seeking clarification about the circumstances surrounding the breakdown of his marriage.

According to the gospel artiste, it was his wife who expressed the desire to end the marriage, moved out of their home and subsequently instituted divorce proceedings.

He stressed that the decision was not triggered by any quarrel between them.

“The decision regarding the dissolution of my marriage was not one I initiated. My wife expressed her desire to end the marriage, packed out of my house and subsequently instituted divorce proceedings without any quarrels,” he said.

Ekiye disclosed that he spent about a year attempting to reconcile with his wife and preserve the marriage after she left.

He said he made every reasonable effort and appealed to her in different ways in the hope that they could reconsider their decision and rebuild their relationship.

However, according to him, his efforts did not yield the desired result as his wife remained firm in her decision to end the marriage.

“Having done all I could to seek reconciliation, I eventually came to the difficult decision to accept the reality of the situation and allow the divorce process to take its course,” he said.

The singer said his decision to speak publicly was not intended to attack or cast aspersions on his wife but was simply aimed at correcting what he described as possible misconceptions surrounding the divorce.

Ekiye further said he bears no bitterness or ill will towards anyone involved, despite the emotional difficulty associated with the end of a marriage after years of shared experiences.

“I bear no bitterness or ill will toward anyone,” he said, adding that he had chosen to approach the new chapter of his life with “grace, dignity, maturity and respect for all concerned.”

The clarification comes as public interest continues to surround the circumstances behind the gospel singer’s divorce, with Ekiye now seeking to put his side of the story on record while the legal process continues.
