Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has expressed pain over her present predicament, saying she just just wanted a place she could work.
In an emotional and tearful interview with the BBC on Wednesday, she expressed deep frustration over what she described as a continued battle against systemic oppression, particularly as a woman in Nigerian politics.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was recently suspended for six months by the Senate over alleged gross misconduct, suggested that her removal was politically motivated and linked to her refusal to yield to sexual harassment.
“I just wanted a place where I will work,” she said, her voice breaking with emotion.
She further lamented the unending struggles she has faced, particularly as a woman in politics. “I thought the worst was over at the elections, but I guess for a woman, it’s never really over, right?” she added, hinting at the gender-based obstacles she continued to encounter.
