A senator who represented Taraba South and governorship aspirant, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, has dismissed allegations that he harbours anti-Muslim sentiments, insisting that religion has never influenced either his political decisions or personal relationships.

Bwacha, a Christian, said throughout his political career he had maintained close working relationships with Muslims, stressing that his opposition to the succession plans of former Governor Danbaba Suntai was rooted in principles of power rotation rather than religious considerations.

The governorship hopeful, who is contesting on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, made the revelation during an interactive session with journalists in Jalingo.

“I have never hated Muslims. My political positions have always been based on principles, not religion. We must move beyond religious sentiments and see ourselves first as Tarabans,” he said.

Speaking on zoning and tenure, Senator Bwacha stated that if elected as Governor, he would respect the will of the people regarding leadership decisions, noting that his governorship ambition was driven by a commitment to demonstrate that effective leadership could come from southern Taraba.

He said his administration would prioritise restoring development and strengthening governance, while future tenure decisions would remain in the hands of the electorate.

Senator Bwacha also expressed concern about Taraba State’s rising debt profile and pledged prudent financial management if elected.

According to him, his administration would verify the actual debt situation, promote accountability and ensure transparent management of public resources.

“We must ensure accountability and proper management of resources.

Whatever belongs to Taraba must be used for the benefit of the people,” Bwacha added.
