Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has reacted to the unfortunate death of fellow actor Alex Ekubo, expressing heartbreak over their final conversations before his passing.
Taking to her Instagram story, Funke shared emotional messages revealing that she repeatedly tried to contact the actor and hoped to see him again before his death.
“I really tried to reach out to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex,” she wrote.
Funke, who referred to the late Alex affectionately as “Ore mi,” added: “Like you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together. REST IN PEACE, ALEX.”
In another emotional post, Funke revealed she had continued sending him messages and voice notes, even as he repeatedly assured her that he was fine.
“It’s so hard. Chai. Going through all the messages I sent. You kept telling me you are fine. I kept sending voice notes. Alex. Chai. God knows best,” she wrote. “I really wanted to see you!!! You said we will see soon. You ghosted me. Chai. REST WELL, ORE MI.”
Alex Ekubo died following a prolonged battle with liver cancer, although official details surrounding his death have continued to generate reactions online.
Alex Ekubo died on Tuesday in a hospital in Lagos at age of 40.
