Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has stated that his administration will conduct local government elections before he leaves office in 2027.
Makinde disclosed this while inaugurating members of the Oyo state Independent Electoral Commission at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, on Monday, saying that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was not afraid of the opposition parties in the state.
According to him, the tenure of the current chairmen across 33 councils in the state is set to expire in May 2027.
The governor, who noted that members of the newly inaugurated Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission were people of integrity, urged them to be transparent in the task ahead to move the state forward.
Members of the OYSIEC are Adebiyi Babatunde, Chairman; Olatunde Theophilus; Chief Kunmi Agboola; and Mr Sunday Falana.
Others are Remi Ayoade, Olarenwaju Emmanuel, Babatunde Ige and Adebayo Mariam.
