The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has said that it was deeply concerned about the recent rumours circulating in the conventional and social media platforms against the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Amb. (Dr.) Sam Ogbuku

The association through its International Spokesman, Amb Emmanuel Nkweke, said the association condemned the rumours in the strongest terms and called on the media and the general public to exercise caution and responsibility when reporting or sharing information about public figures.

“The Managing Director of the NDDC is a peace-loving Nigerian who has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region. He is a man of integrity and principle, and we have no doubt that he would never engage in actions that are unconstitutional or contrary to the best interests of the region and the country at large,” the group stated.

IAWPA said the rumours being circulated about Ogbuku on alleged coup plotting were baseless, malicious, and without merit. “They are not only an affront to his person, but also a threat to the peace and stability of the Niger Delta region,” the association said.

Amb. Nkweke said the association was worried that the rumours could undermine the efforts of the NDDC and its leadership to promote development and prosperity in the region. “The Niger Delta region has suffered enough from conflict and underdevelopment, and we cannot afford to allow unfounded allegations and rumours to derail the progress being made.”

The group further called on the media to adhere to the principles of responsible journalism and to verify information before publishing or broadcasting it. It said the Nigerian public deserved accurate and balanced information, and it is the responsibility of the media to provide it.

“IAWPA stands with the NDDC and its leadership, and we will continue to support efforts to promote peace, development, and prosperity in the Niger Delta region. We urge all stakeholders to focus on constructive engagement and dialogue, rather than resorting to malicious and unfounded allegations that can undermine the efforts of the NDDC and its leadership,” the statement added.
