The Vice-Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, has offered automatic employment to the two overall best graduates of the institution during its 4th combined convocation.
Speaking at the event which took place at the convocation centre of the university at the main campus in Lapai yesterday, he announced the employment the two as Graduate Assistants with training offer up to the Ph.D level.
Mohammed Aisha Egbako of the Animal Production Department with a CGPA of 4.85, and the overall best-graduating student in the 2020/2021 academic session, Yahaya Mahmud Baba of the Department of Food Science and Technology with a CGPA of 4.90 both graduated with first class.
Prof. Adamu said 37 students from the two sets were awarded first class degrees, 954 students awarded second class upper, 3,283 students with second class lower, 1,518 students with third class, and 17 students with pass degrees.
He added that the university was graduating 6,154 students out of who 5,719 are undergraduates and 435 are postgraduates.
The vice chancellor disclosed that the institution had created six centers to enhance research, innovation and patency.
He however pointed out that the university needs funds to accommodate the increasing salary gap and payment of staffs’ outstanding allowances, inadequate power supply, staff/student accommodation, additional classrooms and laboratories .
Adamu also disclosed that the completion of the senate building as well as mitigating security challenges also need attention.
The university conferred honorary doctorate degrees on the governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong with an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Administration (Honoris Causa), the Chairman, Mainstream Energy Solutions, Colonel Sani Bello with an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa), the Chairman, Aliyu Trust Foundation, Malam Ibrahim Aliyu with an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Entrepreneurship Development (Honoris Causa), and Chairman, BUA Group, Alhaji AbdulSamad Isyaka Rabiu with an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Business Management (Honoris Causa).
