Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University, Lapai, and the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) will collaborate to promote and produce indigenous food in Nigeria.
This is aimed at further strengthening and promoting the government’s efforts on food security amidst the current hardship Nigerians face.
An indication of the collaboration was pointed out when a delegation from the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria visited the university to inspect facilities that will actualise the development.
The vice chancellor of IBB University, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, represented by the deputy vice chancellor of administration, Professor Hassan Ibrahim, affirmed that the collaboration would go a long way to strengthen research between the university and the council.
He said that as an institution with global research winners which is deeply engaged in research, IBB University, Lapai, is ready for collaboration.
The vice chancellor assured the delegation that the institution has qualified researchers who could provide the manpower to promote and produce indigenous food in the country.
He maintained that the university is always ready to promote the Agricultural Revolution of Niger State, especially the new Niger Foods mantra.
The delegation leader, Professor Bello Zaki Abubakar, who represented the executive secretary, Professor Garba Hamidu Sharubu, disclosed that the council was looking into collaborating with the university to produce indigenous food, hence the resource verification exercise.
He said it was necessary to see the university’s facilities, especially manpower and other agricultural inputs, before agreeing, assuring that a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) would be signed immediately after the council was satisfied with its readiness.
