The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has ranked the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) as the best agency in the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry in Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard in 2024.
The council achieved a score of 84.68% in the 2024 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard conducted by the ICPC.
However, in its letter to the Council, the ICPC praised the organization’s conducive work environment, corruption-free systems, and efficient port services that meet global standards.
The Council’s leadership, under Dr. Akutah Pius, was commended for promoting efficiency and transparency in the port system.
The Council’s efforts to modernize port operations have resulted in increased productivity, improved performance, and enhanced competitiveness.
Meanwhile, the council also visited the Idiroko Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Idiroko, Ogun State to enhance trade facilitation and promote cross-border commerce.
Speaking, the executive secretary of NSC, Akutah Pius, emphasized the need to establish Border Information Centers (BICs) at key border points, including Idiroko.
Dr Akutah, who was represented by the deputy director of the Trade Services Division, Adaora Nwonu, said the centres would serve as hubs for gathering crucial information, supporting cross-border training units, facilitating information dissemination to traders, and ensuring prompt resolution of complaints.
Responding, the Customs Area Command (CAC), of the Command, Compt. Mohammed Shuaibu, assured the NSC of the command’s full support, stating that providing space for the Border Information Centre aligns with the NCS’s mission and ongoing projects.
Assistant Comptroller of Customs Clement Amaweh urged NSC to educate traders on the importance of formalizing their trade transactions through official banking channels.
