The resident commissioner, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Bauchi and Gombe states, Idris Bello Bakori, has called on local government chairmen in the Northeast to streamline efforts to end corruption at the grassroots.

He said tackling corruption would eventually lead to ending insecurity in the region.

Bakori said this while addressing participants at the Northeast Local Government Development Conference in Bauchi.

The resident commissioner said other minor insecurity trends gradually trickling to the Northeast had further truncated security efforts to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

He said cattle rustling, banditry and kidnapping which previously used to be recorded in the Northwestern part of the country are now rampant in the Northeast because of pressure by security agencies on the perpetrators.

In his paper, Professor Mansur Usman Malumfashi advocated for inclusion of women in key development initiatives to empower them to live up to their social and community responsibilities.
