The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed deep sadness over the death of the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf Wushishi, who held the traditional title of Talban Wushishi.

Idris, in a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, described the death of Wushishi as a painful loss to the National Population Commission, the Nigerian public service and the country at large.

“I received with deep sadness the heartbreaking news of the passing of Dr Aminu Yusuf Wushishi. His death is a painful loss to the National Population Commission, the public service and the entire nation,” the minister said.

The minister described the late NPC chairman as a close associate and committed public servant whose dedication to national development was evident during his brief tenure at the commission.

According to Idris, Wushishi assumed office with a clear vision of delivering a credible and technology-driven Population and Housing Census capable of generating reliable demographic data for effective national planning.

He said the late NPC chairman’s commitment to the census reflected his strong sense of responsibility and determination to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.

“His plans and commitment to delivering a credible and technology-driven census showed his deep sense of responsibility and his determination to leave a lasting contribution to Nigeria’s development,” Idris said.

The minister commiserated with the government and people of Niger State, as well as the people of Wushishi, where the deceased was honoured with the traditional title of Talban Wushishi.

Idris also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, his colleagues, friends and staff of the National Population Commission.

He prayed to Allah to grant the bereaved family and all those affected by the death the strength to bear the loss.

The minister further prayed that Allah forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and grant comfort to all those mourning his passing.
