President-general of the Igbo Community Association (ICA), Jos, Chief Mike Okunonke, has declared the community’s support for the re-election of Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in the 2027 governorship election.
Okunonke said the endorsement was in recognition of Mutfwang’s impressive performance, which has been marked by transparency, accountability, and an inclusive governance style that has positively impacted both urban and rural communities across the state.
Speaking during the governor’s condolence visit to the Ambassador Nelson Mkparu, chief executive officer of NELMACO Global Resources and a leading pipe manufacturer based in Jos, over the passing of his wife, Mrs. Ifeoma Mkparu, the ICA leader described Mutfwang as “a people-focused leader whose commitment to development and security has made life better for all residents, including the Igbo community.”
Okunonke recalled that the Igbo community in Plateau State voted overwhelmingly for Governor Mutfwang in 2023 and has no regrets, citing the Governor’s remarkable strides in infrastructure, security, and creating a conducive environment for business to thrive.
“The Igbos are deeply grateful to Governor Mutfwang. Roads like Apata, which had been abandoned for over a decade, were rehabilitated within months of his assumption of office. Work is ongoing across the state from Utan Road to Namua, Jenta Adamu, and many other critical infrastructure projects. Our people feel safer, more secure, and fully included in the development agenda of this administration,” he stated.
Chief Okunonke praised the Governor for his visit to the Mkparu family, noting that the gesture has brought immense comfort to the bereaved family and the wider Igbo community in Jos.
“Your visit is not only a show of solidarity but also a reflection of your humility and genuine love for our people,” he added. “The peaceful and enabling environment your administration has cultivated encourages us to continue to see Plateau as home, and we are ready to reward your good governance with massive votes come 2027.”
Meanwhile, Governor Mutfwang appreciated the Igbo community’s enduring commitment to peace, harmony, and development in Plateau State. He noted that their contributions have been instrumental in stabilising and advancing the state.
“The Igbo community is one of the stabilising forces on the Plateau. You have consistently shown dedication to development and peaceful coexistence. I’m not saying this to score political points, but your impact is visible and deeply appreciated,” the governor said.
Governor Mutfwang assured the community that his administration would continue to recognise and value their contributions, adding that their investments, such as Ambassador Mkparu, reflected their faith in the state’s future.
“It is heartwarming to see that many of you have chosen to call Plateau home and are investing billions here. We are committed to fostering strong partnerships with progressive-minded individuals and communities like yours,” he affirmed.
He further pledged to ensure the Igbo community continues to enjoy a pride of place in Plateau’s socio-economic and political affairs, stating, “We value your friendship, your enterprise, and your commitment. By the grace of God, we will continue to build a Plateau that works for all.”
