Igbo youth have condemned the recent seeming killing-field Anambra state has turned into citing the assassination of the president-general of Obosi town union, Mr. Ike Okolo, four police orderlies attached to former Imo state governor, Ikedi Ohakim and four other persons.
The president-general of the apex-umbrella of all Igbo youth organizations, Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), Hon. Goodluck Ibem yesterday bemoaned the killings and charged the state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo to up the game in tackling the insecurity in the state.
Besides the assassination of the Obosi town union leader and attack on Ohakim in Mbano area of Imo state during which his four police orderlies were killed, after he escaped in his Armoured jeep, names of the four other persons killed at Nodu, Awka, Anambra in circumstances suspected be a clash between opposing cult groups were as follows: Onyiebo Okoye, Kenechukwu Okeke, Jude Ebenezar and Obinna Maduka.
Though the spokesperson of the police in Anambra state, deputy superintendent of police, DSP, Ikenga Tochukwu who confirmed the killing of the Obosi town union leader and the four victims of the opposing cult groups said, some suspects have been arrested and further investigation were still ongoing on the incidence, Ibem blamed Soludo for indulging more on the politics of the coming general election in the country than paying attention to issues of governance of the state.
He lamented “It is very unfortunate that the peaceful South East zone has been turned into a theatre of war were human beings are used for target practice by mindless gunmen who have no respect for human lives.
“The assassination of people in Anambra State have been on the increase in recent times because Governor Charles Soludo left governance and security of lives and properties in Anambra State which is his primary duty and responsibility to Anambra people to play petty politics of attacking the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi while criminals are planning and attacking the state under his nose”.
He continued: “Governor’s lackadaisical attitude towards security of lives and properties in the state is worrisome and troubling which shows he is not prepared for governance and the responsibility entrusted to him by the Anambra people.
“Anambra State has been under serious attacks and Governor Soludo has not been able to bring the activities of these dare-devil hoodlums to a halt.
“Governor Soludo should tell us what he is doing with the security votes given to him on monthly basis. Is he using it to work or does he think the money is his personal pocket money?.
“Some South East states are under siege because some governors are really not doing their duties as chief security officers of their states. They are not living up to their expectations and it is very unfortunate.”
