The Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938 Tennis section, Chizoba Onuoha, has expressed huge delight over the standard exhibited by the young tennis players at the recently concluded clinic in Lagos.
Onuoha said the level of comprehension of the young ones within a very short time was highly commendable.
She stressed that the Easter Holiday Tennis Clinic/Tournament was a huge success at all fronts for the elite club.
“It was indeed shocking to see the way the kids competed during the tournament and the finals. God really blessed this country with naturally talented athletes.
“At Ikoyi Club, we do not compromise on standards and that was why we engaged top-rated coaches to handle the kids, in the end we saw the work because the finals was very interesting with so much exciting displays by the kids,” Onuoha said.
Mohammed defeated Inioluwa Ransome-Kuti 3/1 in the final of the competition which took place at the Ikoyi Club tennis session.
The tournament was the climax of the five-day intensive clinic given to over 100 kids who were eager to learn how to get better in tennis.
In the Boys U-13 cadre, Oluwamayomile Orungbeja defeated Jamal Mohammed 3/1 just as Ama Gagar was 3-1 better than I. Olotu in the Boys U-16 category.
Also in the girls cadre, Egbemiye Favour defeated Olaedo Irono 3-2 to win the U-10 category while Joy Ogunsan was also 3-2 superior to Oghenetejiri Okotere to win the girls U-16 cadre.
