Former international Victor Ikpeba has praised the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, for his proactive efforts to use football to unite his community.
King Atuwatse celebrated his fourth coronation during the week in the presence of prominent Nigerian football legends.
Attendees included Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Amuneke, Mutiu Adepoju, Austin Eguavoen, Finidi George, Garba Lawal, Ifeanyi Udeze, Taribo West, Peterside Idah, Ifeanyi Ekweme, Victor Ezeji, and Kennedy Boboye.
A friendly match was organised as part of the celebrations, where Chevron All Stars faced off against the Nigerian football legends.
Ikpeba commented that it was a wonderful reunion for the football legends, who enjoyed themselves immensely throughout the festivities.
The former African Footballer of the Year stated: “It was gratifying to see a young King so passionate about the game.
He made it clear that he has been using football to engage the youth in the community. He also shared with us that it has been beneficial for him to involve people through various aspects of the game and community events to unite his people.
“Our invitation was also a deliberate effort to allow his community to see some of their stars in the game. For example, the King himself was a fan of Amuneke, which he stated clearly at the event.
“He appreciates the power of football and is using it to his advantage in his community. I salute his vision.”
In the novelty match, the Nigerian legends triumphed over Chevron All Stars with a score of 4-0.
