Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has denied speculations that he has been appointed the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
The governor however said that he met with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, along with Governor Bello Mattawalle of Zamfara state and Mr Solomon Lalong, the Plateau state governor in Abuja.
El-Rufai who spoke at a live media chat in Hausa, clarified that he was only mandated to design a campaign structure or template which he was asked to share with Governors Matawalle and Lalong for their input.
The governor further said that the trio is also expected to meet with the Chairman of Progressive Governors’ Forum and Kebbi state governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu for his contribution to the document.
‘’After we have done all these, the document will be presented on Wednesday to all APC governors, with the Chairman of our party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and the party’s Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore for final approval,’’ he clarified.
El-Rufai who fielded questions from some select broadcast-journalists, said that the clarification became necessary because the speculation of his appointment has been making the rounds on social media.
‘’Many people have called to congratulate me, asking to be made members of sub-committees and so on. Some offered to even make contributions to the campaign. But I told them that I’m not the Director General of the Campaign,’’ he said.
El-Rufai promised to campaign vigorously for APC whether or not he is the Director General of the Campaign Council because he is the governor of Kaduna state which usually gives the party the second highest votes in presidential elections.
