Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has opened up about her decision to remain single years after the end of her first marriage, citing her son’s well-being as the primary factor in her dating life.
In a candid video shared with her followers on Friday, the Tinsel star explained that while she has encountered “amazing men,” the criteria for a partner have shifted significantly now that she is a mother. Adegbite noted that for single parents, a potential spouse must be vetted not just as a romantic partner, but as a second parent to their child.
“If you are a single mother or raising a child on your own, your decision-making has to be different,” she said. “You are not just choosing a partner for yourself anymore; you are choosing a second parent for your child. Do they have the morals, the values, and the character that I would like my child to grow up around?”
The actress emphasised that building a relationship is secondary to the responsibility of building a stable home. She cautioned other parents in similar positions to “choose wisely,” ensuring any newcomer is capable of treating their child with the same love and care as a biological parent.
Adegbite was previously married to Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh. The pair, who met on the set of the hit soap opera Tinsel, welcomed their son, Brian, in September 2014 before their marriage ended in 2017.
