Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that he is  poorer in terms of assets after serving the people of the state in the last four years.

Makinde said he had lost about 12 percent of the assets he declared in 2019 when he was sworn in as the governor of the state.

He said the reason for the loss was due to his inability to manage and focus on his personal businesses as a result of his running the state.

Makinde who fielded questions from journalists after submitting his end of tenure asset declaration form and obtaining a fresh one ahead of his inauguration for a second term in office at the Oyo State Office of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) at the weekend said despite the loss, he had no regret in serving the state.

He said the details of the loss and his new asset details would be made public soon.

“Statutorily, you have to declare your assets on assumption of office and at the end of your tenure. Since one tenure is ending and by law I have to do the declaration of assets before assuming office for the next tenure.

“So, I came here to submit my end of tenure formfor the first term, asset declaration and also to declare my assets at the beginning of the second tenure.”

“I believe that you are all aware of my declaration for the first tenure. I can tell you that in four years, I am poorer. I am serious because I have not really had the time to look after my business, I have been looking after Oyo State business and I am not surprised that there were a bit of losses here and there, but I am still okay.”

When asked about the percentage of loss, the governor said “It’s actually about 10 to 12 percent poorer. The details of the loss will be made available to the public in due course.”

The governor had declared at the High Court of Oyo State, on May 28, 2019, that he was worth about N50 billion in assets.
