Senator Samuel Anyanwu has insisted that he is the national secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Anyanwu dismissed the position of the PDP governors directing the deputy national secretary to act pending the nomination and ratification of a substantive national secretary from the South East zone and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
He said he will resume office when he returns from the Easter break, stressing that the position is not vacant as stated by the Supreme Court judgement.
Recall that the Supreme Court had nullified judgements of the high and appeal courts which with governors, the PDP Board of Trustees and National Working Committee had recognised Hon Sunday Ude-Okoye as national secretary.
However after the apex court judgement NWC insisted on Ude-Okoye, while Anyanwu maintained that he is national scribe of the embattled party.
But speaking to select journalists, the national secretary accused the governors of fighting a proxy war with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike.
He said “Don’t mind the governors, they are fighting an ego and proxy war. They want to kill PDP and tomorrow blame Wike for it.”
Giving insight into the governors meeting, he said the governors were advised that their decision on the national secretary position was wrong because the Supreme Court had given judgment on the matter.
Anyanwu added that as far as he is concerned the PDP national secretary office is not vacant.
He added that there is an order of the Federal High court which bars the deputy national secretary from occupying the office.
Anyanwu added “My lawyer has submitted the Supreme Court judgement to INEC and they know there is nothing the party leadership can do without my signature and that of the national chairman.
“So, when I return from Easter he will resume office because there is no vacancy,” he said.
