Imo First Lady, UNICEF Urge Holistic Breastfeeding For Child Health

The first lady of Imo State, Mrs Chioma Uzodimma in collaboration with UNICEF called on mothers to embrace exclusive breastfeeding for the health and vitality of their children.

Mrs Uzodimma made this call during the flag off of the 2025 World Breastfeeding Week held in Owerri, West local government area of the state.

The governor’s wife who spoke on the theme: “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support System” encouraged mothers to prioritize and embrace exclusive breastfeeding as a global trend, which is observed annually in August.

Mrs Uzodimma revealed that breastfeeding serves as catalyst for the growth, mental development of babies across the continent.

She said, “I call on mothers to embrace this life saving process of six months breast feeding of babies for optimal growth, health and vitality, coupled with sustainable development of the nation.”

The wife of the governor commended UNICEF, Ministry of Primary Health, Social Services, Development Agency, NPHCDA, WHO, and other partners that have supported the reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health programmes.

Speaking, UNICEF Chief of Field Office, Enugu , Mrs Juliet Chiluwe highlighted that the organization will continue to partner with the state government so as to promote the health of mothers and babies.

She called on the government to intensify awareness and sensitization of mothers on the need for exclusive breastfeeding of babies.

According to her, UNICEF will continue to play major role in drawing attention of the mothers to the importance of breastfeeding.
