Governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the Imo State election, Hon Uche Ben Odunzeh, has promised to conduct local government elections as a way of developing local communities in the state.
Odunzeh, who stated this during his campaign tour, explained that with a democratic elected local government administrators the people in the locals will feel the impact of government.
He revealed that the failure to attend to the yearnings of the people at the grassroots reflects the disconnect in governance, caused by greed. He promised not to tamper with funds belonging to the local government areas.
“The decay in governance at the grassroots is a byproduct of disconnect between chains of government orchestrated by greed. I want to tell Ndi-imo that I shall not involve myself with funds of the local government areas.
“We will conduct Local government elections to allow for a democratic elected local government administrators so that they use your money to work for you.
“Local government areas will get the support of our administration for unhindered autonomy, this is because we want the grassroots to feel the impact of governments and every tier of government must be responsive,” he said.
