Upsets were recorded in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries in Imo State as some incumbent lawmakers failed to secure return tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hon. Chike Okafor, who
represents Okigwe South Federal Constituency and has been in the House since 2015, lost his bid for a fourth term after he was defeated by Hon. Jonas Okeke, a former Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly.
Also defeated was Princess Miriam Onuoha, the current representative of Okigwe North Federal Constituency, who lost her re-election bid to Agasu Uchenna.
In another upset, Harrison Nwadike was defeated in the Nkwerre/Nwangele/Isu/Njaba Federal Constituency primary by Hon. Cosmos Maduba.
However, several other incumbent lawmakers and candidates secured victories in the exercise.
Those who scaled through include Canice Moore Nwachukwu (Orlu/Orsu/Oru East), Hon. Dibiagwu Eugene (Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru-West), Hon. Akarachi Amadi (Mbaitoli/Ikeduru), and Hon. Tochukwu Okere (Owerri Federal Constituency).
Others who emerged winners are Ngozi Pat-Ekeji (Aboh/Ngor-Okpala), Chukwudi Anyanwuocha (Ahiazu/Ezinihitte), Sandra Inyama (Ideato Federal Constituency), and Cosmos Maduba (Nkwerre/Nwangele/Isu/Njaba).
