Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State will on Thursday receive dignitaries as he hosts the 15th annual lecture series of Chief Emeka Anyaoku GCON, in Owerri.
This was disclosed in a statement to newsmen in Owerri by the organizers signed by Amb. Johnson Ogbonna, with the theme: “Imperative of Good Governance in Nigeria” to take place at Rock View Hotel, Owerri.
Anyaoku, a distinguished Nigerian, respected international elder statesman was the first black man to serve as the Secretary-General of Common Wealth of Nations.
Amb. Johnson Ogbonna, in the statement, disclosed that Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Vice Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Anambra State will deliver the key note address, while Senator Jim Nwobodo will be the Chairman of the occasion.
He said the lecture series was instituted in Anyaoku’s honour as a public policy forum that focuses on governance, leadership, and national developments as hallmarks of what he stands for.
The event had always attracted politicians, academics, diplomats, business moguls and civil society actors to stimulate debate on good governance in Nigeria.
Since it’s inception 15 years ago, the Chief Emeka Anyaoku lecture series revolves around themes such as; democracy and constitutional reforms, leadership and accountability, national unity, restructuring, economic and institutional developments.
Further, he said the lectures had always been a cross fertilization of ideas and knowledge and is open to all members of the public and students of high institutions.
He said “this year, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Anambra State will deliver the key note address, while Senator Jim Nwobodo will be the Chairman of the occasion.
“Other dignitaries and speakers that have graced the lecture in the recent past include Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd), Chief John Oyegun, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, late Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, former Gov. Donald Duke, Professor Barth Nneji, Professor Anya Anya, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, late Professor Dora Akunyili, Professor Pat Utomi, Professor Joseph Ajienka, Professor Ayo Olukotun, Professor Hope Eghagha, Dr. Reuben Abati, Senator Ben Bruce, Senator Ben Obi, among other global personalities”, he said.
The previous lecture series had been hosted by the State Governors of Lagos, Anambra, Delta, Ogun, Edo, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Oyo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom States amongst others.
