All is set for the South East Media Summit, which is expected to hold on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024, in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
Chairman of the planning committee, Chief Kennedy Eweama in a statement said the summit is organised by Nigerian Horn Group of Newspapers in collaboration with South East Media Practitioners on the theme “The Media, Ethical Responsibility and Democracy : South East in Perspective”.
Already, Governor Hope Uzodimma, the special guest of honour has confirmed his participation while former governor, Dr Ikedi Ohakim is the keynote speaker on the topic “Ndigbo and Media Digitalization in the 21st century Nigeria : The Way Forward”.
Eweama, a senior journalist, said the summit “is expected to provide a veritable ground for the cross-pollination of ideas as they affect the prospects and challenges of the journalism profession vis-à-vis democratic governance in the geopolitical zone”.
According to him, the event aims to also proffer ways the journalism practice can thrive without hindrance from government institutions while discharging its social responsibility obligations to the society.
The occasion will be chaired by a notable entrepreneur in the oil and gas industry, chief executive officer (CEO) of Ailes Group, Dr Michael Onuoha (Eriri Ego), while Rockview Hotel, Owerri, serves as the venue for the historic event.
Further, Eweama said notable Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavour would also be honoured for their individual accomplishments, especially as they impacted socio-economic and human development in the southeast.
