A charity organisation,  “Jennifer Etuh Foundation,” yesterday reached out to about 1,500 widows in Tula village of Kaltungo local government area of Gombe state with wrappers, toiletries and cash gifts of N10,000 each.

The programme manager of the foundation, George Etuh, said the gesture was meant to bring succour to widows in the community as part of the Foundation’s one-week community outreach in the state.

According to him, the foundation also provided five-day free medical outreach in the village, free screenings and treatments for all ailments.

The medical team also performed free hernia, dental and eye surgeries among others.

Mr. Etuh said the foundation has also built the Jennifer Etuh Medical Centre, named after late Mrs. Jennifer Etuh, in Tula.

The centre will be commissioned today, Monday, July 10.

“The tradition is that whenever we are commissioning a hospital anywhere,” he said, “we offer assistance and medical outreach to the people of the community. We are providing health interventions to Tula community because it is a hard to reach community and many of its residents are not mobile.

“We therefore deemed it good to provide them with hospital so that they can access health care services at their doorsteps. We urge them to take ownership of the project and maintain the facility for their own benefits.”

Mrs. Etuh, a philanthropist, died three years ago. The Tula health facility, is the fourth being opened in her memory.

Some of the beneficiaries Madam Rebecca Samuel; Lydia Nuhu; and Laraba Ayuba, praised the foundation for its effort, especially in this period of economic hardship.
