The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false a graphic circulating online claiming that the Commission fixed March 26 as the deadline for government officials seeking elective positions to resign.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the Commission clarified that the information did not originate from INEC and should be disregarded by the public.
INEC stated that it has not made any announcement setting March 26 as a resignation deadline for political office holders intending to contest elections.
“The graphic being circulated is fake and misleading,” the Commission said, warning members of the public, media organisations and political stakeholders against spreading unverified information.
The electoral body emphasised that all official announcements and updates from the Commission are communicated only through its verified platforms.
According to INEC, these include its official website, verified social media handles, and authorised press statements issued by the Commission.
The Commission therefore urged citizens to always verify election-related information through these official channels to avoid being misled by false or manipulated content.
INEC also reiterated its commitment to transparency and timely dissemination of accurate information to the public.
