Taraba State resident electoral commissioner (REC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr Sa’ad Umar Idris, has embarked on a two-day advocacy visits to security agencies, paramilitary formations and other stakeholders to boost voter registration.

Idris said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between INEC and critical stakeholders in the electoral process, while also sensitising them on the ongoing third phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which commenced on May 11 and would end on July 10, 2026.

He appealed to the security agencies to support the commission by using their platforms to educate and sensitise the public on the importance of registering and obtaining Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them participate in future elections.

He emphasised the critical role of security agencies as members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), noting that they play key roles in election security planning and coordination.

The REC said, the visits formed part of ongoing preparations by the commission towards ensuring a credible and inclusive electoral process in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The REC visited the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Coordinator of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), the Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), and the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Other agencies visited by the REC included the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Controller of the Federal Fire Service, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Jalingo, and the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
