A foremost research institute, Projects Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu, has developed bird repellers to encourage farmers.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of PRODA, Engr Peter Okwudilichukwu Ogbobe, disclosed this during the institute’s 2024 end-of-year party.
Ogbobe explained that the propellers, aimed at driving away birds from farms, can generate twenty-five different sounds from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
He further disclosed that the sounds were developed to generate different sounds to ensure that birds do not return to the farms after one sound.
He noted that peace is one of the fundamental things he has achieved since taking office at PRODA, adding that there were infightings in the institute before he took office.
Ogbobe said he and the institute’s management introduced the end-of-year event to bring people together and engage them meaningfully.
He said they also decided to introduce the team merit award to ensure that the institute produces the best research team.
He expressed happiness that the institute came third during the last technology expo and added that they will continue encouraging teamwork.
Ogbobe further disclosed that they also developed hybrid welding machines that use solar energy to reduce dependence on electricity.
Ogbobe further hinted that plans were underway to train youths to use some of their products as part of efforts to reduce poverty and drive them off the streets.
He commended President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, for their tremendous support, saying they made him record success at the institute.
The institute used the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of some workers who demonstrated exceptional productivity and dedication. Some of the institute’s retirees were also recognised during the occasion.
