The event brought together seasoned professionals, researchers, and newly qualified members.

Speaking with journalists, the president of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), Prof. Fanna Abdurahman, said: “What we are doing presently in the institute is about chemical safety and security, and people are constantly exposed to chemicals the create some health challenges,we are looking at the role chemistry plays in health and diseases.”

She noted that the Institute has regulatory framework that was going through the process of approval, which will give the Institute the power to look at how people use chemicals for various purposes and people who have no right to handle chemicals.

Prof. Abdurahman added that by 2024, the Bill for the regulatory framework will be passed by the National Assembly and it will give the Institute the power to enforce how chemicals are used in the country.
