The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has charged officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), who recently graduated from the 29th ASC Basic Course International to be patriotic and diligent in discharging their duties.

The Minister gave the charge when speaking at the Passing Out Parade of the 213 cadets from the ASC Basic Course International in Kaduna State on Friday.

“I want to use this forum to request all Correctional officers to remain patriotic and diligent as they discharge their responsibilities.

“The federal government is actually counting on you as we work towards the amelioration of numerous security and socio-economic challenges facing our fatherland.

“Indeed, the tasks ahead may be tough but they are not insurmountable. Always remember that the job of rebuilding Nigeria is everybody’s task.”

The Minister who was represented by the Secretary of the Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Service Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed said, “Basic Course has indeed produced the desired impact on the participants and I do hope that the knowledge acquired during this period would be deployed in the years ahead.

“Of course I hope you know that this Basic Course is just the beginning of other numerous courses you would have to undergo in the course of your duties.

“I wish to therefore enjoin the College to continue to fulfil its mandate of training and re-training of Correctional Officers in line with international best practices especially in the light of the security challenges in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.

“This Passing Out ceremony is coming at a time when the Federal republic of Nigeria just witnessed a political transition of power with His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Going by the track record of His Excellency, there is no
doubt that Nigeria is in the right hands.

“And I want to use this forum to reassure Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will never disappoint Nigerians. At the fullness of time and very soon Nigerians would indeed know that voting Tinubu was never a mistake.

“The federal government policies for addressing the challenges facing the country are already in place.

“As for the Ministry of Interior, I want to assure you that the Ministry working in conjunction with the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) would continue to collaborate with the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service and his team to emplace adequate measures for the Nigerian Correctional Service to carry out its statutory responsibilities.”
