Following the adoption of resolution 75/200 of the United Nations General Assembly which sets aside every 4th of February as a day for Human Fraternity, the International Association of World Peace Advocates IAWPA in South Africa has concluded plans to celebrate the day which is the first of its kind in the country.

In an invitational letter signed by the South Africa Country Director Amb. Anthony Chenedum and sited by our correspondent, the renowned international association with Special Consultative Status under the Economic and Social Council ECOSOSC of the United Nations since 2019, has appointed Amb. Augustine Onwumere to Chair the event in South Africa.

The letter said Amb. Onwumere was appointed as a result of his commitment to pursuing the goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG which was significant in his appointment as an Eminent Peace Ambassador and his company also given affiliation to the association.

The letter also stated that the United Nations in setting aside the date for the celebration of the Human Fraternity Day, aim to follow up on the Abu Dhabi declaration for the promotion of greater cultural and religious tolerance which the association has upheld and pursued because of its critical role in achieving goal 16 of the SDG that promotes Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

In a separate statement, the International Spokesman of IAWPA Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke has eulogised Amb. Onwumere on his appointment as Chairman of the Human Fraternity Day in South Africa. Amb. Emma said his appointment as Chairman is a noble one and goes a long way in identifying with his humanitarian works which is consistent with the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG.
