There seem to be cracks in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State following the intrigues and backstabbing that characterised the party primaries for the local government election.
Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has fixed October 9th for the conduct of local government election in the state.
Our correspondent’s investigation revealed that there are complaints ranging from the imposition of candidates to being shortchanged by the party secretariat during the exercise’s conduct.
According to an impeccable source, some cabal in Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s cabinet, for whatever reasons, targeted to cripple former members of the National Assembly who are considered threats to their continued political relevance.
Another source also pointed out that almost all aspirants supported by former members of the National Assembly across the state were resoundingly defeated by the cabal’s anointed aspirants.
Similarly, he further said former National Assembly members, like Hon.Johnbull Shekarau, Hon. George Daika, Isaac Kwallu , the mother figure of Langtang North/South politics Hon. Beni Lar and many others had their candidates rejected during the conduct of the primaries.
Meanwhile, the state publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Shittu Bameyi in a statement said with the cabal hijacking the primary elections PDP may not have a smooth sail if PLASIEC should conduct a free and fair council poll.
He stressed that APC is still a force to be reckoned with in the state.
But in a swift reaction, the special adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Inter-Party Relations, Mr John Akans, denied the existence of a cabal in Governor Mutfwang’s cabinet. He argued that the governor has no preferred candidates for the office of local government chairmen in the state, adding that the All Progressives Congress is trying to sow a seed of discord among members of the PDP. “That, on its own is dead on arrival”, Akans said.
