Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that striker Alexander Isak could return to team training as early as next month, expressing optimism that fans may yet witness the “best Alex” this season.
Isak has been out of action since December, having fractured both his leg and ankle during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur. This injury has added to a challenging start for the £125 million forward, who joined from Newcastle United last summer. However, there remains a possibility for him to make a significant impact as Slot’s side aims for a strong finish to the campaign.
“Alex has been on the pitch—not in his football boots but in his running shoes—for the first time this week, so it will take a while,” said Slot. “Once you’re back on the pitch, it doesn’t take three months anymore, but the final stages of rehab can be unpredictable. Let’s not impose a timescale, but it’s clear he will be available—if all goes well—this season.”
When asked about Isak’s potential availability around the March international break, Slot added: “It should be around that time, but it depends on whether things progress smoothly or if he experiences a setback. Hopefully, by late March or early April, he’ll be back with the group.”
