United States President Donald Trump has disclosed that Israel has agreed to a sixty-day ceasefire with Hamas as part of renewed efforts to end the war in Gaza.
Trump announced the development in a statement posted on Tuesday night on his social media platform, Truth Social.
He said the United States will work with all parties during the ceasefire period to pursue a broader peace deal.
“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring peace, will deliver this final proposal,” Trump said.
“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”
There has been no immediate response from Israeli officials regarding President Trump’s claim.
Negotiations for a temporary truce have stalled for months, largely over disagreements on what should follow a ceasefire.
While Israel has insisted on retaining the right to resume military operations, Hamas was pushing for a permanent end to the conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to visit the White House next week.
Trump said he plans to be “very firm” with Netanyahu on the need to bring the war to an end.
Efforts to secure a truce earlier this year collapsed in March when Israel launched a surprise military operation in Gaza that reportedly killed over 300 people.
Netanyahu later defended the offensive, saying Hamas had “repeatedly refused to release our hostages.”
