Social commentator Solomon Buchi, has criticised women participating in a viral dance trend in which participants raise their legs, place their hands around their private areas and then smell their hands.

Buchi described the trend as “disgusting” and argued that women who participate in it present themselves in an unflattering manner.

According to him, there are certain activities women should avoid, particularly when they are performed publicly for social media engagement.

He described participants in the trend as “crass” and questioned the educational value or appeal of the challenge.

His comments followed the circulation of videos showing women taking part in the dance, which has attracted reactions and debate across social media.

Buchi’s remarks have added to the growing conversation around viral social media trends and the lengths some users go to for entertainment, visibility and engagement.
