‘It’s Final Intervention’, Wike Speaks On Tinubu’s Latest Mediation In Rivers Crisis

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s recent mediation between Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the State House of Assembly will be the President’s last intervention in the State’s political crisis.

Wike made the declaration on Tuesday while addressing journalists after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in the FCT, confirming that President Tinubu had indeed stepped into the dispute for a second time.

“President Tinubu is very kind to the people of the state. If there seems to be any problem between the legislature and the governor, as a father, he really has to intervene.

“This is the second time Mr. President is intervening and I believe, by the grace of God, that this will be the last time Mr. President will intervene,” he said.

The minister’s comments followed reports of a Sunday night meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja involving Tinubu, Wike, and Fubara.

It was further reported that after the meeting, Fubara followed Wike to his residence in a gesture aimed at reconciliation.

Wike expressed confidence that the concerned parties would heed the President’s counsel.

“I have told them (Assembly members) to obey Mr. President and I know that they would not hesitate. And I know that the governor would carry out his own part to make sure that this is the final time that Rivers people will hear this kind of discord,” he said.

Shifting focus to FCT projects, Wike also highlighted the progress of key projects under his supervision in the nation’s capital.

After inspecting sites including Life Camp (N5) and Karsana, he expressed satisfaction with the contractors’ work describing the project as one slated for inauguration during the President’s third anniversary in office.

At the Karsana site, executed by Lubriks Construction, Wike praised the quality. “I am very impressed with the quality of work. I have asked the company, and from what I have seen, they’re really going to meet up the May, June set time,” he said.

The minister assured that his administration would ensure necessary funding to keep the projects on schedule.

“I sincerely thank them and believe that on our part, we will make sure that they get the necessary funding so as to finish this project on time. But we’re very happy,” Wike stated.
