Contrary to what is becoming the norm in the country, the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has said he has no ambition to go to the Senate after leaving office.

Otti stated this last weekend at a reception organised in his honour by the Union of Anambra State Associations, Aba Branch in Aba, the business nerve centre of the state.

“I will not be interested in the senate after my second term, but would retire from active partisan politics to allow the younger ones to serve,” the governor explained.

According to him, he is in government to serve and give the people what they desire by delivering democracy dividends and correcting the wrongs done by previous regimes.

He said he was looking at the 2011 disengagement of non-indigenes from the state civil service by a previous administration, which also affected Anambrarians.

Otti, who noted that though the exercise occurred long before he came to power in 2023, assured that his administration was considering how to assuage the plights of its victims.

The governor thanked the people of Anambra State and others for the support they have been giving him since 2023, adding that his administration does not discriminate.

“For us, that thing called state of origin, we have already abolished it. I maintain, if you live here and you are a good citizen, you pay your taxes here, you are from here,” he added.

In his remarks, the member representing Aba Central constituency in the House of Assembly, Stephen Ucheonye, said 2027 had been settled for Otti, saying what remains now is for Otti to prepare for the senate in 2031.

In their respective comments, the former mayor of Aba North local government area, John Udeagbala, and the host, Nnodi Okoye appreciated the governor’s ongoing infrastructure development across the state.

Earlier, in an address, the president of the branch, Obiora Nwakpadolo, lauded Otti for the achievements he had recorded in office, assuring him of their continued support and cooperation.
