The registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, announced the release of the results yesterday at a press conference, held at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

LEADERSHIP reports that over 1.9 million candidates registered and sat for the examination in 118 towns and over 700 centres across the country.

The examination which began on Friday, April 18 ended on Monday, April 29, 2024.

Oloyede, who said the direct entry registration is still ongoing, disclosed that out of a total of 1,989,668 registered candidates, 80, 810 were absent while a total of 1, 904, 189 sat for the UTME within the six days of the examination.

“The board is today releasing the results of 1,842, 464 candidates, 64, 624 results are under investigation for reasons of:

“Under investigation on verification (2, 896), procedural investigation of candidates (4, 594), centre based investigation (57, 056) in 18 centres: Edo 12; Akwa Ibom 3; Delta 2 and Kwara 1; alleged examination misconduct (78).”

Giving the analysis of the results, the JAMB Registrar said over 8,401 candidates, representing 0.5 percent scored 300 and above, 8,401, 77,070 representing 4.2 percent scored 250 and above, 439,974 representing 24 percent scored 200 and above, while 1,402, 490 representing 76 percent scored below 200.

However, the Board advised candidates to use the phone numbers they used to register and text “RESULT to 55019/66019,” to get their results.

It added, “There is no need to approach any CBT centre or cybercafé to check results. The following are the responses to be expected hence, a candidate with a result will receive the message:

“Dear “Candidate X”, your result is as follows (and the details will be provided).

“Those being processed and those absent would receive “under processing” and “absent” respectively.

“Those under investigation would receive verification investigation, under Investigation and alleged Infraction.

“There is no doubt that the 2024 UTME would long be remembered as one of the most innovative versions in the annals of Computer-Based Testing by the Board.

“The successes recorded, particularly in terms of reduced infractions, show that the Board’s processes are getting better with each successive exercise,” it said.

Oloyede also stated that the Board, at the moment, conducts examination in nine foreign centres namely: Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Buea, Cameroon; Cotonou, Republic of Benin; London, United Kingdom; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and Johannesburg, South Africa.

The essence of the foreign component of the examination, he said is to market institutions in the country to the outside world as well as ensuring that our universities reflect the universality of academic traditions, among others.

He said the board is currently fine-tuning arrangements for the conduct of the 2024 UTME in these foreign centres.

On the issue of top scorers in 2024 UTME, he said it might be unrealistic or presumptive to say a particular candidate is the highest scorer given the fact that such a candidate may, in the final analysis, not even be admitted.

“However, owing to public demand and to avoid a repeat of the Mmesoma saga as well as provide a guide for those, who may want to award prizes to these set of high-performing candidates, the Board appeals to all concerned to always verify claims by candidates before offering such awards,” Oloyede said.

Speaking on the new methods of accepting or rejecting admissions, the registrar said either a candidate sends “Accept/Reject” on his dedicated phone line to 55019/66019; or a candidate accepts or rejects any admission offer (programme change inclusive) with his/her fingerprint (biometric) at an accredited CBT centre or at any JAMB Office.

He, however, lamented that undue parental influence remains one of the challenges being encountered by the Board in the course of performing its statutory roles.
