The coordinator JDPC, Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna, Rev. Fr. Joshua Yima Achir, during the presentation of starter packs to beneficiaries yesterday in Kaduna, highlighted unemployment, insecurity, drug abuse and other social vices as issues of concern that need to be addressed.

Achir, however, explained that empowering young people is key to eradicating poverty in society and reducing dependency on parents and the government for white collar jobs.

According to him, no nation develops without self-reliant youths, saying, there is a need to encourage self-reliance to boost Nigeria’s economy.

Achir, therefore, advised young Nigerians to be self-reliant and embrace resilience in the face of current economic challenges.

He advised the government to create empowerment programmes to take youth off the streets.

Some beneficiaries expressed delight, assuring them that they would make judicious use of the opportunity to train others and improve their livelihood and economic status.

A beneficiary, Emmanuela Okonkwo, trained in fashion design, expressed appreciation to JDPC and promised to step down the training.
