The executive chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Mr Jerry Adams, has accepted to be Governor Uba Sani’s running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

Governor Uba Sani had on Tuesday unveiled Adams as his running mate.

The nomination marks the first time in seven years that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has fielded a Christian as its deputy governorship candidate in Kaduna State, signalling a departure from the party’s Muslim-Muslim governorship tickets in the 2019 and 2023 elections.

In a statement issued by Adams yesterday, the KADIRS boss said since his announcement as deputy governorship candidate he had been overwhelmed by the congratulatory messages, visits and prayers.

Adams said together with Governor Sani and with God’s guidance, they will work to build Kaduna State that is peaceful, prosperous and fair to every one of its people.

According to Adams, “With a heart full of gratitude, I accept this nomination as running mate to His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, CON, Executive Governor of Kaduna State, for the 2027 general election.

“Since the announcement, I have been genuinely overwhelmed. The calls, the messages, the visits, the prayers; they have come in torrents, from every corner of Kaduna State and beyond, and honestly, I have struggled to find the words to respond to even a fraction of them.
To everyone who has reached out; family, friends, strangers who now like family, please forgive me if I have not replied to you individually. Know that every message has reached my heart, even where it has not yet reached my phone,” he said.

The statement reads, “I do not take this moment lightly. I receive it first as an act of faith; faith placed in me by a Governor whose commitment to justice, equity and inclusion has been consistent since he took the oath of office in May 2023. Your Excellency, sir, thank you for seeing something in me worth trusting with this responsibility. I pray daily that I will justify it.

“To the people of Southern Kaduna (irrespective of tribe and religion) and Kaduna State as at large , I owe you more than words can carry. This nomination belongs to you as much as it belongs to me. It is the fruit of your patience, your prayers, and your unwavering belief that our home has something valuable to offer the government of this state. I feel the weight of your hopes, and I carry them humbly, not as a privilege to be enjoyed, but as a duty to be served.”

Adams added, “I want to specially acknowledge our traditional institutions, whose quiet wisdom and steady counsel have held our communities together through difficult seasons. I also thank in a special way our religious leaders including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), two bodies that have continued to stand for peace, dialogue and coexistence between our faiths. Your leadership reminds us daily that Kaduna State’s greatest strength is not in what divides us, but in what we choose to build together.

“This is a humbling moment for me. I am one man, standing on the goodwill of many. What I offer in return is simple: competence brought honestly to the table, unity pursued sincerely across every divide, and service rendered without pride,” the statement said.
