The power of God will fill you tonight and you will be settled.
vs 38. Our thirst begins with salvation. We believe on Him as we thirst for the new life and salvation which He brought. We have been told that the power of salvation comes by believing in Him. After salvation, there is still a vacuum of a power that they didn’t have. As they thirsted, later in the book of Acts, they were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. Before this, they had some desires which the Lord rebuked and they began to thirst for sanctification and all desires to scale the mountain while others remained in the valley vanished from them. As you see your inadequacies, and you continue to thirst, everything you need will be given unto you.
Jesus was about to go and the disciples were sorrowful because no one would open the eyes of the blind and make the lame walk. They began to thirst for power and fullness of what God had to offer them. That was why Jesus told them to tarry for power at Jerusalem. They were fearful of the powers that be in that same city and they locked themselves up in a room.
When Jesus gave them this promise, they thirsted even more and tarried in the Upper Room, praying. Then the power came and filled them all.
Peter stood and preached the kind of message he would not have preached before being filled, and three thousand souls were converted. The Lord will use you and thousands of souls will be turned around to the Lord through you in Jesus name.
Everything begins with a thirst – you are sick, you want to get healed. You are oppressed and wants to get delivered. You are powerless and want to get the power of God to do exploits. Jesus said about all who believe, “out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water”. Before now, you didn’t know that you have anything inside of you, but from now on, the peace, purity and power will settle in your inner mind in Jesus name.
Isaiah 44:3. God is looking for all who are thirsty and He would pour water on them. Water represents refreshing, renewing, transforming and revitalizing. He promised to pour His blessing upon our offspring. Everything that has dried up in your life will come alive tonight in Jesus name.
Acts 2:37 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” People around, seeing Peter and all other Apostles spoke so freely wondered how they did it and also wanted to have such power. They were already saved and sanctified and filled with the power, their words carried weight and made great impact on the people and they asked, “what shall we do to be saved?”
vs 38. Peter responded that they should repent and believe on the Lord Jesus and they would be saved and receive the gift of salvation, sanctification and the in-filling of the Spirit.
vs 39. The promise is for everyone who is thirsty and desirous. All who are thirsty must come and drink. All who want the fullness of the presence of God will have it, it is for as many as the Lord our God shall call. As you respond to the call, there will be peace in your heart, purity will saturate your being and you will be immersed in the power of the Spirit.
B. THE LIBERATING FREEDOM-GIVER FORGIVING AND FREEING THE SINFUL FROM ALL TRANSGRESSIONS (John 8:11-12,30-32,36; Romans 6:18-22; 8:2; Galatians 5:1,19-25)
This chapter 8 of the book of John is very important, instructive and inspiring. What happened was that a woman was caught in adultery and dragged to Jesus by Pharisees who were sinners themselves. Yes, the Spirit of God will catch the catchers. They told Jesus where they caught the woman and reminded Him of what Moses said, that such people should be stoned to death. These were people who were “holier than thou”.
Thank God that the catchers brought her to Jesus. He is the best One anyone can report us to. The Pharisees did not know that they were doing the work of an Evangelist, they thought bringing her to Jesus who is so holy and pure will earn her outright condemnation and judgment.
It is not so, when you come to Jesus, a new life is just beginning for you. Grace will come to you tonight.
Jesus said any of the accusers who had never sinned should take a stone and cast it at her. With this, Jesus caught them. He will catch your accusers and not agree with them. One by one, the people went away. All your accusers will go away and no longer oppress or threaten you. Jesus is the freedom giver who will forgive your sins and set you free. The greatest mistake the woman would have made was to leave Jesus and go with her accusers. They would have destroyed her.
vs 11. So, Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more”. The woman breathed a breath of relief. She was expecting condemnation and being stoned but Jesus, the most holy and pure would not stone her. He would not drive you to hell fire. Forgiveness is certain for you. He came to the world to save, not to destroy you. The better and righteous life you desire will come to pass in Jesus name.
“Go and sin more”, no man has ever said this to anyone. In the old Testament, the priests would tell the people to come back again for atonement, and they make sacrifices for it every year. They had no power to deliver anyone from sin. Now with Jesus, our condemnation and death sentence are canceled. You will not die in sin, new life has come to you from heaven.
vs 12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” The woman will no longer walk in the darkness of immorality, iniquity, evil and transgressions because Jesus, the light of the world has shone the light of salvation upon her. We shall all have the light of life.
vs 30. As Jesus spoke, many believed on Him.
vs 31. He said if anyone continues in His word, he is His disciple indeed. Jesus pardoned the woman but she must not go back to sin, but to continue in His word.
vs 32. He said we shall know the truth, and the truth shall set us free. Every truth you hear about Jesus will make you free and free indeed.
C. THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD, GIVING SIGHT AND INSIGHT THROUGH THE TRANSFORMING TRUTH (John 9:4,5,7-11,18-22,24-38)
John 9:4 “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” The question is what is the work of Him who sent Jesus? He came to seek and save all who are lost in the jungle of sin and confusion. What is the work of Jesus? Your salvation. Christ must save you because that was why He came, and you will have it, not because you know how to cry or roll on the ground, but because your salvation is a must. Whosoever comes to Him, He will not cast out.
What work? The work of healing. He came to restore your body to a normal and healthy position. That was why when he came across a man who has been sick for 38 years, He could not pass on and ignore him. He saw the work He must do there. The works of Christ He must do is to take crutches out of your hands and you rise and walk. Are you blind? He will open your eyes because no medical help has worked. Healing for all incurable diseases tonight.
There are other works of the devil scattered everywhere – depression, oppression by the power of demons, etc. All who are under yokes will go home free today. On the man who was born blind the disciples asked whether he or his parents sinned to make him be in that condition. Jesus said No, but that it was for the glory of God to be manifested. Jesus wants to do something in your life that will bring forth His glory.
So, the man came to Jesus and He made clay, apply to his face, and told him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. He wanted to test his obedience, He could have said, “blind eyes, open!” The man did not argue with Jesus. That would be like a patient arguing with the doctor on which medications to prescribe for him. If he knew how to get well by himself, why did he go to the doctor? The man went, washed and the congenital blindness cleared away immediately. That infirmity you were born with will clear off in Jesus name.
When the man came back, he was asked how he got his sight, and he told them what the Lord did for him. Until today, He is still saying “I must work”, and will do all necessary works on you. He must do as He said.
Heads bowed and eyes closed. Here is your time to have pardon and forgiveness. Talk to the Lord in prayer.
