Nollywood actor Jide Awobona has ventured into the akara business, joining a growing list of celebrities exploring small-scale enterprises.

The actor announced the new venture on Instagram, where he shared a video of himself frying akara while promoting the services he now offers. Beyond selling the popular bean cakes, Awobona revealed that he is available to cater for events, travel for bookings, and even provide tutoring.

The post attracted reactions from several of his colleagues in the entertainment industry. Rotimi Salamiwrote, “Come open branch for Ajangbadi,” while Yetunde Barnabas commented, “Haaa, what is this pls?” And Olayinka Solomon added, “Thank you for listening to our mother.” While Adebimpe Oyebade simply wrote, “Murasi.”

Awobona’s latest business move comes amid renewed conversations around small-scale entrepreneurship following comments by Oluremi Tinubu. While speaking to State House Correspondents, the First Lady encouraged Nigerians facing economic hardship to consider low-capital businesses such as selling akara, roasted corn and kuli-kuli as practical ways to earn a living.

Fellow Nollywood stars have also embraced the idea. Actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday recently unveiled her own akara and roasted corn business, sharing promotional flyers online and appealing to fans to support the venture. Actress Moyo Lawal has likewise been mentioned among celebrities who have explored similar entrepreneurial opportunities.
