The professional, who was honoured in 2019 with the Deloitte Africa Impact Award in the Society and Profession category, weighed on issues in Nigeria’s energy sector, stated that a well thought out deregulation would bring about competition which would promote efficiency. “Private businesses competing with one another to supply energy services in a deregulated market, improves service quality and advances technology development. For example, increased competition in the power industry will result in improved infrastructure, a more consistent supply of electricity, and lower costs for both businesses and consumers,” he said.

Interventions in Agric Sector

Omojola stated that the Nigeria’s agriculture and food production industry has enormous potential. The graduate of Economics from the University of Ilorin, believes Nigeria can experience food security “but it needs to methodically address the obstacles it encounters. Nigeria can increase agricultural output and guarantee food security for its expanding population by making infrastructure investments, changing land rules, encouraging the adoption of new technologies, and bolstering governance. Millions of farmers’ lives will be improved by these initiatives, which will also establish Nigeria as a major force in world agriculture.”

Proffers Solutions To Lack Of Accountability In Governance

The chartered accountant weighed in on issues of corruption in Nigeria has advocated for introduction of more robust internal controls and digitizing financial reporting to improve accountability. “Financial management can be improved by employing performance-based budgeting, integrating data analytics, and training public sector accountants. Forensic accounting techniques and blockchain technology can lower fraud and increase transparency. Transparency is encouraged by public access to financial data via open government portals, and effective use of funds is ensured by strong regulatory frameworks and performance dashboards. When taken as a whole, these actions enhance financial reporting, fortify internal controls, lessen corruption, and increase public confidence, all of which promote more efficient governance and resource distribution,” he stressed.

Jide Omojola’s contributions to the accounting industry exemplify a commitment to excellence and innovation. As he continues to lead and inspire in his current role, his influence on the profession will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy, shaping the future of accounting in Nigeria and beyond.
