The Jigawa State Government, has approved the sum of N3.3 billion for the implementation of a dairy production programme in the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, said this in an interview with LEADERSHIP in Dutse, the state capital.

He disclosed that the state government has designed a plan to reform and develop the state’s dairy production to meet global hygienic and market standards.

The commissioner noted that though the state produces thousands of litres of dairy products daily, the process remains traditional with no modern techniques for preservation to enable long-distance marketing.

According to him, the state government’s dairy production policy is targeted at improving the entire value chain, including livestock rearing and feeding, milk collection and processing in line with modern standards.

“When implementation commences, the programme will address issues related to storage and manual processing, which will enhance dairy production, improve the livelihoods and incomes of millions of Jigawa families and also tackle multidimensional poverty among agrarian rural communities in the state.

“The programme will also make dairy available in commercial quantities at various designated points and factories, from where it can be transported to national and international markets,” the commissioner stated.

Sagir further revealed that the State Executive Council also approved the sum of N923.6 million for the implementation of the 2026 Rainy Season Phase IV of the Jigawa State Workers’ Agricultural Support Programme.

He noted that the Civil Servants’ Agricultural Support Programme was established to help workers diversify their sources of income and also contribute their quota to strengthening national food security.

The commissioner maintained that these programmes are part of Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s commitment to encouraging productive engagement in agriculture, increasing household incomes and boosting food production for sustainable development.
