No fewer than 15,775 flood victims’ households received relief materials, including food items and cash, across 17 local governments of Jigawa State.

Speaking at the flagging off of the distribution of the relief materials held at Buji local government of the state, governor Umar Namadi said the relief materials were aimed at reducing the hardship faced by displaced persons but not to compensate for their loss.

Governor Namadi noted that his government has been concerned about the situation of the flood victims since the beginning of the disaster and will continue to support them in collaboration with the federal government and other private and public sympathizers.

“today, we flagged off the distribution of a 10-kg bag of rice, maize, guinea corn, one cartoon of spaghetti, and N20,000 to each of the 15,775 flood victims’ households.

“As we commiserate the death of 36 people who died as a result of the flood and sympathise with those who lost their houses and farmland, we will continue to render more support to the victims to reduce the hardship they face”, Governor Namadi stated.

In his speech at the occasion, the state commissioner for special duties Hon Auwal Dalladi Sankara said the state emergency management agency has been working day and night to reach the flood victims.

“As His Excellency Governor Malam Umar Namadi directed us, Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency had in the early day of the flood provided rapid response to the victims, we also provided second relief materials and today we are given another relief materials to the victims living at various IDPs camp.
