Suspected hoodlums have reportedly attacked the Tuje community in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, leaving three people injured.
The suspected attackers were said to have come from the neighbouring village of Talai in Itas Local Government Area of Bauchi State and unleashed their nefarious acts.
According to a source from the village, the hoodlums entered Tuje in large numbers and targeted the house of one Isyaku Tuje, who they found absent; however, they injured some members of his family.
The attackers met some resistance from the community, which forced them to withdraw immediately. However, the incident created tension and fear of degenerating into a communal clash.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Badaruddeen Tijjani, said that after receiving a call about the attack, security operatives rushed to the village to restore order.
Mr Badaruddeen noted that those injured were taken to hospital, but no arrest had been made as of the time of filing this story.
According to him, a team of combined security operatives was deployed for patrol and to maintain security and order in the area.
However, the Kiyawa Local Government Chairman has set up a committee to liaise with security agencies to investigate the causes of the crisis and take all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence.
