The state commissioner for information, youth, sport, and culture, Hon Sagir Musa, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the council’s meeting.

He stated that the Majiya Committee has been directed to commence the disbursement as soon as possible to the families of 201 deceased victims and over 70 survivors who sustained varying degrees of injury in the accident.

According to the commissioner, N850 million has been redeemed from the over N1.6 billion pledged by individuals, groups, and public organisations to assist the victims. The committee was urged to intensify efforts to recover the remaining pledges as distribution begins.

The committee, set up to investigate the 15th October tanker explosion that occurred in Majiya Town, Jigawa State, under the chairmanship of DIG Hafiz M. Inuwa (rtd), revealed that the incident affected 308 people, with 209 confirmed dead and 99 survivors sustaining various injuries the commissioner explained.
