A 40-year-old woman identified as Fatsuma Bagobiri of Garin Mallam village in Guri local government area of Jigawa State has committed suicide by setting herself ablaze.

Reports from Guri revealed that the woman who was suspected to be having depression following her broken marriage and other economic challenges poured petrol on her body and ignited fire which burnt her beyond recognition.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawal Shisu said the command on Thursday evening received the heartbreaking information about the incident.

“Following receipt of the unflattering report, a squad of officers from the Guri Divisional Police headquarters raced to the scene of the crime, verified the incident, took the charred body to the hospital and later released the corpse to the family for burial.

“However, a preliminary investigation found that the deceased experienced depression a few months following her husband’s divorce.

“The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP A.T. Abdullahi advises the state’s law-abiding citizens to always submit their affairs to Almighty Allah, pray for blessings, and seek guidance from their elders on any complex matter.”
